This is our new favorite pizza place! My husband and I stopped in for the first time tonight and were really impressed. This is a rather small place, and for a Sunday night it was hopping. Even so, the service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing, which was appreciated. I only saw two beers listed that are their own brew, but they have a nice selection of beers from other local breweries. I'm not a big beer drinker, so I didn't order one, but my husband ordered the Dunkel Weisen (one of the house brews), and I tried some of it and really liked it. The next time we come and I'm in the mood for a beer, I'll have to order one. The menu itself is pretty limited. If you're coming here to eat, they don't really have anything else on the menu other than pizza, aside from some snack type foods (chips and salsa, pretzels, chicken wings, etc., though they did have a salad on the "special" board that looked pretty good), but it's a pizza place/brew pub, so it makes sense that they specialize in pizza and beer. We shared a 13" Area 51 pizza. The pizza was delicious and we both really enjoyed it, and it was the perfect size for both of us. I really loved the atmosphere, too. It's casual, but fun and lively. From what I understand, they have live music Monday - Saturday. I don't know of any other local restaurant or bar that has live music six days out of the week, and I think it's great. Since we came on a Sunday, I wasn't expecting anything to be going on, but it turns out that they had karaoke tonight. Lots of people participated, and some of them were really good. I'm usually too intimidated to get up and sing, but my husband loves karaoke and got up and did a couple of songs. We ended up staying a lot longer than we intended to, and probably would have stayed longer if I didn't have to be at work tomorrow morning. We really enjoyed our experience and since we live close by, we will definitely be back soon!

Honestly I was expecting more. They have a lot of local brews on tap but any place that calls themselves a brewery should have at least ONE beer that they brew. At least they had good beer selection, 19 according to their board. The beer selection was probably the best thing about the place. The pizza was good but the crust was burnt, which of course detracted from the flavor. It's a small place and they had live music when we went which was mediocre at best, but fun to see. The staff was friendly and service was quick. I'll probably give them another shot since my expectations may have been set too high.

This place has great potential but has a ways to go! Came in on a mid-week night, they had a live band and the place was very small. When we first came in we were not acknowledged for about 10 minutes, finally someone came by to bring us a menu. Our server was not super friendly but at least we were able to order drinks. The good stuff - The iced tea was one of the best I've had! The beer & cheese dip was great and the pizzas tasted pretty good. The not so good stuff - service was a little gruff and very sporadic, only half our party was attended to at a time. The beer lists were only visible on chalkboards which weren't readable because the lights were off (maybe because of the bands?), the server finally just chose something for us. The wings were mushy - like they'd been frozen and just reheated. We got several different pizzas and they all tasted the same, is that even possible? Maybe they just all took on the taste of the brick oven. The music was so loud during the last band that we couldn't even hold a conversation. The final touch, one of the members in our party was double-charged for his beer. Is $4.50 enough to complain and cause issue over - we didn't think so, so we paid the bill and left. There was some good stuff happening here but not enough to get me to go back.

I'm surprised as to how many bad reviews this place has received. The food was amazing. The beer was cold. The staff was friendly. The music was good and the atmosphere was warm and friendly. This place is a hidden gem. Great pizza! It would be nice if the place was bigger but then it might lose its charm. You can't go wrong.

Blue grasshopper is great. Today was our 2nd time here and both times we had the best pizza I have found in New Mexico. I am from rio rancho and love pizza. It's amazing. My fiancé and I will now be regulars. :)

A cool new find! I enjoyed a crisp and thin wood oven pizza and a local brew. I suggest checking this place out. The bathrooms and eclectic decor are a plus. I would only suggest spiffing up the common areas that customers can see. For example, the clutter and storage behind the bar and cords that can be seen from hanging tvs.

The wood oven pizza was awesome! We tried to different personal size pizza and shared them. First the Margherita pizza. Tomato sauce, garlic, fresh basil, mozzarella, parmigianino, reggiano cheese. Basically a vegetarian pizza. While I personally like eating meat with my pizza, I was very surprised about how great this pizza was. The next one is the Area 51 pizza. Pepperoni, chicken, mushrooms, black olives, tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese and of course hatch green chile. Another great pizza! The flavor and combinations of ingredients make this pizza great. I don't drink but my wife also tried a sampler of the local beers that they had. For a low price you actually get to have a good amount of beer.

So I was only here for the beer. TBG had only 1 beer on tap but it was good. There are a ton of guest beers here.....all local NM beers. I like this place and can see myself coming back!!

The pizza is excellent. The beer options are spectacular. What's not to love. This is a great neighborhood bar with local flair. Service is slow, yes. But what you get is a unique experience in Rio Rancho. Try it and enjoy!

Absolutely love this place!!!! Wonderful environment, the best pizza, great selection of craft beer, family owned and operated, great people and live music!!!! They just added a patio which makes it that much sweeter!!!! The Blue Grasshopper is not just another brewery, this place is a unique rare gem you need to try!! I know other reviews have talked about service, however it's less than a year old and there's always growing pains. Service has been awesome the last several times I went!! Support your local brewery pizza pub!!

Great beer, great pizza...only issue is the sound level of the music. We still come, but be warned, this place requires you to yell! Speakers need to be turned down in such a small space (if only to protect the hearing of the workers). Atoms bomb pizza is awesome :)

I had heard good things about this place so when I found myself on this side of town, I decided to go in. When I visited (end of November 2014), they still didn't have their own beers on tap but they had a great list of local brews available. It wasn't crowded yet, so I was able to sit at the bar and watch them make the pizzas. The music was so-so and too loud for the space. The magherita pizza is delicious - the sauce is fresh and the cheese blend is perfect. I'm not a big fan of basil so the single leaf per slice was perfect for me. Servers are friendly and will easily chat you up about what's on tap or leave you be to sip your beer. I'll be curious to see how their own beers turn out.

not too happy! I understand health codes and stuff like that but a lot of breweries are dog friendly so I called before driving across town with my dog to see if dogs were allowed at this establishment the gentleman on the phone said "yes if they are well behaved" so again I drive across town with my dog to go here and as soon as me and my dog arrived inside to meet our friends I was approached by the owner that dogs were not allowed! I understand rules but it was a huge inconvenience for me being miss informed! and a little embarrassing!I had never been to this establishment so I didn't know they served food! a lot of brewery's in abq dont.

The service could use some help waited a while before anybody came to our table and we waited a very long time for our pizza the food was ok but not great. The beer was good and I loved the live music it was a nice change of pace

They have a great selection of NM beer on tap, and bring a growler to fill! Or you can get one of theirs for $7, I think... I'm just gonna say it.. they have the best wood burning stove pizza I have ever had! The crust is thin, but not to thin. Cooked to perfection, crispy, but still soft inside. The sauce has a great flavor, but doesn't over power the pizza. They have great fresh toppings, and I can't wait to go there again!

Would be a nice place if they had their own beers on tap. The fact they opened as a brew bar and where going to be brewing their own beer but have yet to done so is a big fail. Bathrooms are un kept and not clean. Food is below average.

Nice selection of NM craft beer, well-informed bartenders, and a great blend of neighborhood ambiance and cutting-edge brewing scene. You can't beat a bar that has PBS on one TV and sports on the other. I wasn't here for the live music and didn't have a pizza (had eaten already), but others said both are great.

Hope for the best with this place. I'm giving two stars because we waited to eat at this place and got told they didn't serve food until after 4pm. We weren't told that until we walked in as opposed to when we called. We went in at 230. The staff had paperwork all over the bar and we wanted to sit there but we chose a table instead. We frequent the area so we were very excited for a local brewery to be here. However they don't have any on site brew yet. I just wish they would Have waited to open until they were ready. Pretty unorganized. All in all I hope they succeed. Good luck Blue Grasshopper!! I will try you guys again in a few months and hope it's a lot more organized. :)

Their pizza is great and I love the small atmosphere. The place is quirky with mismatch chairs and tables but great vibes. Beer is from all over the area and a good large selection.

Music was great pizzeria not so much there was way to much flour on bottom of pie after cooked and could have been cooked better, I will give second chance and update review if needed

The pizza was decent and it seemed like they had a good beer list. However, the service was unacceptable. As first timers to this place, we were excited to try some of their beers and try out their pizzas. Well, we were never greeted so we seated ourselves. When the waiter came to us, he just slapped menus down and pointed to the beer list, never explaining anything about their own beers. So we just ordered beers that were familiar to us. There was live music but it wasn't very good. Nobody was clapping so an employee behind the bar started clapping and loudly said, "Well at least I appreciate you," making all of the patrons feel uncomfortable. The atmosphere was very negative from that point on and they didn't seem interested in serving their patrons. It's a shame because the place has so much potential! I can't see this place succeeding until they make substantial improvements with their customer service.

Hoping for the best for these guy's, I've heard good things. Went in on a Thursday afternoon about 2:30 ish to check it out. Walked in, thought we walked in on a meeting. No one else was there but two guys. Was expecting a nice fire going for wood oven pizza and a warm welcoming, unfortunately, wasn't there. Please get some good, welcoming, smell delicious food and atmosphere going. Definitely will come back if changes are made!

Went for dinner tonight to celebrate baseball wins. The service was a little rocky at first but we ended up having a great time and meal. There's live music which is nice but it's kind of a smaller place. The food was really good. We tried the beer cheddar dip, pizzas and wings. All very good. They gave us our appetizer free since we started out oddly but by the end of our meal, everything was wonderful. Thank you!!!!

They are new. I hope they make it. But when you wait for 10 min. To get a beer and they are not that busy , is bad. But when you have to Waite that long while watching one of the owners help the band set up is bull shit. Nice little place but they need some meet and greet lessons. I've been around this bar business too long. Ask for advice on this guys. I hope to go to three stars in a couple of weeks. Good luck

As a huge firebrick pizza and brew fan, I was anxious to get over to The Blue Grasshopper to try it out. I had read some previous Yelp reviews that were overall positive so my expectations were set fairly high. The Blue Grasshopper is tucked away in a small strip mall in Rio Rancho. The place was fairly small yet welcoming and had some good live music playing. There were about 10 other patrons in there on a Monday night but was not remotely busy. They had a total of 19 local brews on tap which is awesome for a local pizza joint. We had to seat ourselves and then it took about 7 minutes for one of the two employees who appeared to be working there to come over and ask about drinks. My wife and I split the Chicken Pesto pizza and added green chile, and my daughter got a plain cheese pizza. Our pies came out really fast (in about 10-13 minutes) and they both had a good appearance to them. Our chicken pesto pizza had great flavor but could have stayed in the oven a few minutes longer. Unfortunately the green chile used was obviously nothing more than frozen Bueno green chile (or similar) bought at the grocery store that didn't have any heat or flavor to it and our pizza would have been better off without it. My daughter's cheese pizza was simple yet good. Overall, Blue Grasshopper is a solid three stars, but unfortunately the complete lack of service brought it down for me. My wife had to take her glads up to the pizza cook and ask for a soda refill twice and in fact we were not checked on one single time during our dinner and we had to walk up to ask for our check. The place definitely has the potential to be great, but when there are so many other great options within a few miles (Il Vicinio, Nicky V's, Turtle Mountain), having a complete lack of service makes the decision easy on where to go. I'll give The Blue Grasshopper another shot in the future, but they definitely need to improve on the service front.

The pizza is to die for and the beer ain't bad either! I love the live music and great friendly people! This will be our go to pub from now on to hang with friends, grab a few beers and a great pie!
